Capacity Building

The BHP is committed to increasing the research and medical capacity of Botswana and other countries in the region

Recently BHP has been the beneficiary of several capacity building grants to support African researchers. The fundamental strategy of capacity strengthening is to learn by doing, so trainees spend time working with mentors, researchers, and other scholars within the region.

The BHP participates in Trials of Excellence in Southern Africa (TESA), a regional Network of Excellence for Conducting Clinical Trials in HIV, TB and Malaria, funded by the European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP); the Botswana-Tanzania-Zambia Capacity Building for HIV Prevention Research Network (TanZamBo), funded by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) of Canada; and the Southern Africa Consortium for Research Excellence (SACORE), a research capacity-strengthening collaboration among ten institutions in Africa and the United Kingdom, funded by the Wellcome Trust.
