Study Objectives:

  • To determine the burden of Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) and Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG) infections and correlates of infection among asymptomatic pregnant women in Gaborone, Botswana.
  • To compare longitudinal neonatal outcomes for pregnant women tested & treated for CT/NG infections during antenatal care with women who received standard antenatal care.
  • To assess the burden of infection and markers of inflammatory response to CT/NG infection during pregnancy and associations with vertical transmission of CT/NG.

Study Design: Cohort study

Study population and size: 500 asymptomatic pregnant women
